Brainstorming Game Ideas

Since being in the Game Design Track at the University of Central Florida, I have thought of some ideas for value-based games. One of which is a game about mental health. The premise is a young girl goes about her day like normal, but once she is asleep she has vivid nightmares alluding to how she truly feels. As the game progresses you begin to see more and more of how she feels in her surrounding, almost like coming to terms with the idea of not feeling okay and seeking help. Another idea is a game that explores what it is like to find and have a found family. I like to imagine it playing out as a visual novel sort of game where you speak with people and get to know them and your choices affect the story.

The final idea for a game I have thought of for a long time is a story heavy, RPG in which you play as a character born in a utopian city. When the player explores the city, they realize that the world outside the city is desolate. The reason being the city stripped the land of all its resources and continues to do so farther and farther away. It is suppose to bring to light how society should be caring for the environment instead of constantly taking from it. Some mechanics I have in mind for the game is a progression system in which after completing a certain task the player will receive some sort of object to continue to the next area. I got inspiration for this game from a mix of Journey (the game) and The Lorax made by Illumination.

I’ve had these ideas for a while and while I can start creating them now, I want to wait and keep thinking and developing them over time. But I do like the idea of creating a small portion of one of them to see how it would work, like a prototype.
